On Eagle's Wings

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him. Deuteronomy 32:11,12

Eagles nest high on cliffs and ledges. Their nests are hard sticks, softened by their feathers. They watch over their fledglings, helping them, encouraging them to fly from the nest. The mother carries them on her wings, dropping them to allow her babies to try their own wings. Then she flies under them, catching them until they learn to soar on their own. So the Lord alone, led the children of Israel. As long as they followed Him, they were blessed and He carried them.

My granddaughters who are 5 and a little less then 2, live at the top of a mountain. Their parents take great pride in teaching them. I was amazed as I watched the least one with her junk box, take out a spool and some yarn and begin to wind the yard around the spool (no small task for a toddler barely talking). As she wrapped she watched her dad tying flies at the other end of the kitchen table. She made no attempt to take his string, or scissors, or materials. She was given her own and followed his example.

The oldest pushed a chair to the stove. I was almost horrified that mom handed her a spoon to stir a hot pot of broth to make gravy. Then I realized this was not the first time she had helped cook. She was well trained by her mom. She was beginning to fly. How precious to watch these parents train their children.

Our children will learn anything we train them to do. We are always teaching and training whether we realize it or not. Training them to become strong Christians is also done by our example. Do our children see us pray before meals and at devotions? Do they see and hear us read scripture? Do they see us be the hands and feet of Jesus to others? Are our explanations to their questions Biblically based? The eyes of our little fledglings are always upon us.
Blessings,
Gail

Hey Kids:

What are your parents doing that you would like to learn as well?
Is dad building a shed,
repairing plumbing,
changing a tire?
Though I am a girl, I learned fractions handing my dad wrenches as he rebuilt a motor under a shade tree.

Is mom baking bread,
preserving/canning for winter,
sewing clothes or making a quilt,
knitting or crocheting?

Draw up along side your parents and grandparents this week and see what amazing skills they have to share with you. Ask questions and learn what amazing things God has done in their lives. You'll be surprised what Jesus has in store for you.
