The Old Rugged Cross

Everything is showing signs of spring - peach and apple trees blossom, daffodils and tulips pop up everywhere. Even the pine trees are sporting new growth. But wait! What is that I see?

There in the tops of the trees, little tiny crosses stand against the sky like treetops are hilltops. Yes, it's just the new spring growth that in a few days will open up to new needles and cones, but look how marvelously God has shown his love from the treetops.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: ~Romans 1:20KJV

From the moment of creation, God knew he would send his son to be slain on a cross. Bursting out all around us is the clear gospel of love, sacrifice, death, burial, and resurrection.

...the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. ~Revelation 13:8b KJV

I mentioned tulips and daffodils. Bulbs buried in the ground are now springing to new life and beauty. Peaches and apple trees blossom, calling the worker bees to help produce fruit. The threatening frost that can kill all the hard work of the growing fruit. All of these are just more signs in the physical world of what God has done, is doing, and will do in the spiritual world.

What else will we notice as spring progresses?
  • Dogwood blossoms
  • Caterpillars that turn into butterflies
  • Tadpoles growing into frogs never to return to live beneath the water again
  • Baby birds bursting from their shells
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ~John 3:16 KJV

What will you recognize as His message to you this spring?

Father God, please open our eyes that we might see your love and care for us. Help us to diligently share your visuals with our family and friends. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hey Kids:

We've named several things in creation that point us to Jesus.
How can you use at least one item to share the gospel with a friend?
What other things have you noticed that you can add to the list?
