Angels Keep Watch

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:10

Did you realize that children have angels who watch over them continually? That doesn't mean nothing bad ever happens to them, but their angels continually tell the Father what is happening. Our heavenly Father is working out a plan for them and for us.

The night the Father sent His only begotten Son into the world, angels not only lit up the heavens singing to the shepherds, but I know there must have been angels watching from the rafters and in the corners of that stable. The Father knew He was sending His Son to die a horrible death for us but he did it anyway.

And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. Hebrews 1:6

His Angels Kept Watch

Mom and Joseph labored through the night.
Now He is here, pink and perfect.
Joseph speaks and His head turns,
Eyes searching as if to say,
“I know that voice. That’s my Joseph.”

He easily finds both fists and suckles loudly.
Bright eyes search the face who holds him.
Mom nestles him close to her breast.
His head turns from His fists to her warm food.
She smiles and relaxes as her milk lets down.

He nurses strong, then begins to doze and
Awake to snack and doze and snack
And doze and ….
His chin quivers as her breast slips from His mouth.
Sleep, peaceful, quiet, heavenly sleep.

Swaddled in clean cloths, He is laid in the manger.
Whispers enter at the barn door.
Shepherds shuffle in the shadows of lantern light.
Quiet awe at the sight of the angels’ message.
“For unto you is born…a Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord.”

Heavenly Father, please open our eyes to the reality of Christmas, Your Son born to a simple family, living a simple life, dying a horrible death for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hey  Kids:

The last part of Luke 2 gives us a small insight into Jesus childhood. What do you think the reality of his childhood was like.  How alike or different was his childhood from yours? You might want to discuss it with your family this week.
